Monkey mayhem in New Delhi.

Yes..you read that right. Delhi has an estimated 10,000 monkeys. This can be attributed to the ever shrinking natural habitat of the monkeys, as the city is expanding fast. These monkeys look pretty cute, but they have been causing the residents a lot of trouble in the past few months. Monkey attacks have become common, and the mayhem caused by these monkeys has reached the Indian parliament.
There have been prior attempts by the government to handle this monkey menace. In 2002, the municipal corporation had caught 400 monkeys and put them in special shelters. But soon, their monkey friends helped them escape from the shelters !
In 2004, the central government had instructed to relocate the monkeys to the state of Madhya Pradesh. After the first monkey batch arrived, the Madhya Pradesh government demanded more money to admit more monkeys..so this scheme also failed. The monkeys were deported back to the capital ! The case is pending in the Supreme court !

The monkey menace took a tragic twist, when the Deputy mayor of Delhi was attacked by monkeys in October last year. He lost his balance, and fell from the terrace. This caused his untimely and tragic demise. This incident re-iterated the monkey problem in Delhi and caused the monkeys at the highest level to take some stern decisions of this ongoing problem !
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) said that they were finding it hard to find monkey catchers..so they hired some languars (another monkey breed) to scare away the existing monkey population ! Pretty smart..i must say 
Monkey vs Monkey !! This plan also failed, as the monkeys shifted from one location of the city to another! Lets hope, the government finds a lasting solution to this serious threat
Talking of monkeys, I find them pretty cute ! As a school going kid, i remember some monkeys who used to come at my bus stop. I also used to watch them from my school bus at India gate. They were available in all sizes..little monkeys..bigger ones..older ones..etc ! They made a nice family photograph !Catch them if you can !!

That is too bad about the Deputy Mayor! I remember reading about that in October, I felt so bad for his family.
On the flip side, someone needs to tell those monkeys that India has a process in gaining a political office. Taking out a Deputy Mayor is not one of them.

Monkeys are so cute, but I can imagine the problem when they over populate. Deer are beautiful, but we’ve got so many here its impossible to have a garden! Thanks for stopping by my blog!

Monkey has been some of sources for jokes from people. That shows certain level of humane curuelty. This animal has never been protected from it for centuries. How unlucky they could be!
