Driving in India makes you a Disaster Management specialist..read on!
August 1, 2007 at 6:03 am | In random, teens |Well….Driving in India can be looked upon as a very brave deed ! Especially if you happen to be living in one of the metros, like Delhi and Bombay. I grew up in Delhi..learnt driving there..and became an expert driver! HOW ?? When I started to learn driving, I put a ‘LEARNER’ sign on my car. It did not take time for other motorists to fly past my car..HONK unnecessarily..trying to come in front of my car etc ! Maybe they were trying to make me ‘mentally stronger’

Often you will see cars in Delhi, converging at you from all possible directions ! People will jump in front of your car, on the pretext of crossing the street ! If this was not enough, there are those killer buses..threatening to run your car over! You also have to be careful of any live ‘electricity wires’ hanging around from the trees..and make sure you steer clear of them ! So..driving on Delhi roads really tests your character and mental strength !
See the photos below:

If you happen to be in Bombay, you are greeted by looooooooooong traffic jams. The roads are verrrrrrrrrrrrry narrow too ! The roads are also full of potholes, caused by the rains ! So, driving in Bombay feels like riding a camel !
There is also a pretty good chance of drowning in Bombay, if the rains are a little heavy ! It takes no time for the water level to rise on the streets!!!

So..you see what I mean ! Driving in India can really make you a ’stronger individual’ !It’s definitely not for the faint hearted ! I would like to present a ‘bravery award’ to all those ‘brave’ drivers, who take the streets on everyday, in their quest of reaching their office!

i can totally agree with what u say. Had a hell of a time through the Delhi traffic last time we were there.
Even here in Kathmandu, the situation is quite similar. Listening to those continuous jams and irritating horns is like part of the life. You stay in jams more than the time you need to drive to your place.

You know, despite the HORRID traffic in India, people there probably curse and complain about it less than in the West.
Comment by Roger Gordon — August 9, 2007 #
